Infinity

T-Shirt- Gap
Jeans- Gap
Scarf- Artizan
Glasses- Etnia Barcelona

I bought this scarf this weekend- a fringed, brown/maroon infinity scarf, and I HAD to wear it today, so I decided to style it really simply, with my favorite purple t-shirt and jeans. It was a nice comfortable outfit. Today was the coldest morning of the 2010-2011 winter so far. Wonderful...

My friend commented on my last post, and in his typical economically minded way, suggested I post on fashionable winter boots, in consideration of the weather. For you, darling...

I miss shoes...

I miss wearing shoes. Heels, flats, sandals, and suede. I can't wait for the snow and muck to go away so I can put my winter boots away. Especially with all the beautiful shoes out there...

Musical Inspiration

I have recently put the album "Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge" by The Pierces on my iPod, and I have had it on continuous shuffle for the past 3 days. I love the haunting and eerie melodies, and it's an enjoyable ride. So much so that I felt compelled to create an outfit that reflected what I thought of it...

I found that the album left me with a feeling of edginess and a bit of sexy. I chose to keep my pieces mostly monochromatic with silver and black, but with pops of a rich purple for the tank and nail polish. I stuck with styles that, to me, felt classic with a daring twist for a look that wasn't too over the top. That said, this definitely more of a night time look...

Does music ever inspire how you dress?

Laundry and homework

Ahhh.  It has been crazy busy since school started! My goal this term is to stay on top o my coursework and not procrastinate, so I've been reading and writing and working like crazy. I have to work on finding time to fit in taking pictures at some point in the day, because once I get a moment, most days I'm much too tired and just want to climb into some pjs. Like in this polyvore set....

A pair of comfy yoga pants, a cotton blouse with draping that compliments my curves, nice warm slippers for sitting in the basement. Finished with my favourite lipbalm and my beautiful macbook, it's perfect for an evening of laundry and homework.

Not fat enough?

This past weekend I had an interesting experience at work, and I still haven't been able to get it off my mind. I work at a plus size clothing boutique, and on Sunday, a lady came in looking for a winter jacket- something warm, longer, and more of a "ski-jacket" style. I showed her our jackets, and when she wasn't able to find anything that fit what she was looking for, I mentioned that a couple years ago I had found a nice jacket in the style she was looking for at Mark's Work Warehouse. She proceeded to say that I was barely plus size, and that she wouldn't find anything large enough there (she wore a 2x).  This left me feeling a little jilted and I felt like she was saying I wasn't "plus sized enough" to do my job.
I wear a size 14 and am often a little too curvy for the regular sizes, but often a bit small for plus sizes. Society seems to put so much pressure on the thin ideal, and often neglects to acknowledge the beauty of curvier women, and so I am used to being told I'm too fat or too curvy. But never have I experienced feeling like I was "too skinny".
Have you ever had an experience like this?

The joys of sale shopping

When I finished work, my mom asked me if I wanted to stop at the Bay Southgate, because they had coats on sale (as well as boots, and everything else imaginable) for up to 80% off. Of course I said yes, because who doesn't love making the perfect find at that kind of price... And of course I found THE jacket. A beautiful green/teal peacoat with a small ruffle at the bottom of the neck by the buttons by Kenneth Cole. I ran over to it and frantically looked at the sizes of the two of them. Sadly, no luck. When I tried it on, it was too small. Heartbreaking...
On the bright side, I did find the perfect purple scarf like I've been looking for!

What a week...

Hooray! I love the beginning of a new semester- new classes, new textbooks, and an enthusiastic outlook. However, I do not love snow, or the cold. With everything that has been going on, I haven't had time to update, or for that matter have any creativity with what I wore. The formula was throwing on a t-shirt, a cardigan, jeans, and swiping on powder foundation and mascara, and running out the door like a madwoman. I couldn't have lived without winter boots and my Sugar Plum tinted lip balm by Fresh. In lieu  of a real photo, or exciting fashion news, I played on Polyvore!

I love the teal colour of this double-breasted peacoat, and being a sucker for peacoats, decided to base this outfit around it. I also love orange, so I chose to focus the outfit on this loose fitting t-shirt. As a student at school, I have to be mindful of bussing to class but still dressing appropriately for being inside warm classrooms. With these considerations, I built an outfit using mostly browns for to create a look that is both neutral and colourful, ideal for a school day in this TERRIBLY cold weather!

Don't freeze out there!

The Sartorialist

Recently a short documentary was made about Scott Schuman, the man behind The Sartorialist. Instead of me blabbing on about his brilliance, here's the video!

"Don't just stand there..."

                                                   T-Shirt- Gap
                                                  Vest- Louben
                                                Jeans- Old Navy
                                           Necklace- Groove Stone
                                             Ring- From my mom
                                          Glasses- Etnia Barcelona

This is what I wore yesterday (Saturday), but I never got a chance to finish posting, as I had a very busy evening.  I decided to go with a simple palette of black and shades of purple. It was a great outfit for my day- appropriate for work, but fun enough for the party I was going to that night. On the annoying side, these jeans are the THIRD pair of Rockstar skinnies I have worn since August. Each pair has seemed to last about a month and a half of being worn about 4 times a week before wearing through the thighs (as well as starting to stretch out). Will I ever shop at Old Navy after this? No. I loved the cut and style of them, but I am going to find something similar in better quality.

Go Look at This!

Today I truly discovered the blog Saks in the City , I had heard of it before, and perhaps briefly glanced at it, but now I'm hooked.Sakina is a curvy Parisian beauty with a FABULOUS sense of style. In addition to her charming and chic blog, she is also the Paris v-logger for Vogue Curvy. If you haven't seen her blog, take a look!

Best Purchase EVER!

                                                 Shirt- Gap
                                             Vest- Louben
                                           Jeans- Old Navy
                                 Lipstick- Estee Lauder: Autumn

Today was a great day! But have you ever noticed it's easier to get to school for a 9 o'clock class than it is to get to work for 10? I was wearing my favorite black boots with this today, but went to the mall after work with my mom and stopped in at the Gap to pick up the pair of City Flats I have been eyeing. I am in love! They are so comfy and classic, and when my mom saw me put them on after I got out of the store, she sent me back in to get her a pair. I definitely understand the adage "if the shoe fits, buy it in every color!"

Feeling Professional

                                                Cardigan- Gap
                                               Top-Le Chateau
                                               Skirt- Smart Set
                                            Shoes- Naturalizer
                                      Key Pendant- Groove Stone
                                       Glasses- Etnia Barcelona

I"m excited to finally wear this outfit! I was playing dress-up in my closet a little while ago, and put this outfit together, and have been waiting to wear it to work. I've always liked the high-waisted skirt look, but have been scared to try it, but I found that wearing the cardigan helps soften the look, and the high waist helps lengthen my legs- which is great, because I am taller in my torso than my legs...

A bit of excitement in my dreary day

Zac Posen has chosen Crystal Renn as the main model for his Pre-Fall 2011 campaign! Although the fashion world's notion of curvy and plus size is still quite slender, it's very exciting for such a well known designer to pick a plus size/curvy model for such a large campaign. I'm incredibly excited to see the campaign! Vogue Curvy (Vogue Italia) did a brief article on the campaign, which you can read here .

The Mystery Jacket

                                         Sweater- It's a mystery
                                                 Shirt- Gap
                                              Jeans- Walmart
                                     Shoes- Kenneth Cole Reaction
                                         Glasses- Entia Barcelona
                                      Necklace- A mystery as well
                                       Lipstick- Clinique: Surprise
I feel like I'm leaning really far forward in this picture, but unfortunately I was in a hurry and all of the others are fuzzy or my eyes are closed. Oops. The vest I'm wearing is super comfy and reversible, and has no identifying tags for me to find out where it came from (My mom gave it to me because it wasn't working in her wardrobe. It seems the things that don't work for her are utter perfection for me! The necklace was also from my mom.) I love how it falls in a perfect a-line and shows just the right amount of the t-shirt I'm  wearing under it to give a slimming effect.

                                     Shoes- House of Harlow 1960
                                     Lipstick- Clinique: Tenderheart
It was one of those mornings when the outfit you envisioned definitely didn't work out! I was super excited to wear these shoes today, I had been eyeing them for a few months and recieved them as a Christmas gift from my parents and was eagerly waiting to wear them at work. After discovering the black jeans and vest I originally planned to wear in this outfit didn't work, I tried almost every cardigan in my closet before settling on dark indigo jeans and this green cardigan.

Ringing in the New Year!

                                       Cardigan- Banana Republic
                                        T-Shirt- Scotch and Soda
                                              Jeans- Walmart
                                   Lipstick- Clinique: Tenderheart

Happy New Year! After staying up incredibly late for New Year's celebrations last night, I slept in and when I finally rolled out of bed, decided today would be an ideal casual day. I recently purchased this t-shirt at Derks Menswear while with my parents picking up a suit for my dad. I had this outfit in mind, and was thrilled this morning to find that it worked out perfectly! Superb for a laid-back day with family!
