"Oh. My. God."

image via here

My mom was rendered speechless by the amazing hair that walked down last night's runways. It was nothing short of amazing, and I took a lot of inspiration from the show. I told my friends and family to make sure that I don't book any hair appointments for the next couple of weeks, between all of the amazing creations the salons presented, I am having a hard time refraining from getting some crazy colours care of Twisted Banana salons, or wishing I had hair long enough for some of the incredible bouffants. But for sure, I took away some ideas for Halloween, the garbage bag gowns from Eveline Charles Creative Team were absolutely divine.

Western Canada Fashion Week

It's here! After a long wait and much anticipation, I am excited to say that Fashion Week is in full swing in Edmonton! Three days in and I have tons of inspiration for autumn and a growing wish list. (Including teal lipstick, is there any one who doesn't think I'm completely crazy about this one?)
Although I am attending, this season I will not be covering WCFW myself, but the lovely Marie from Marie a la Mode has graciously allowed me to link to her blog for her coverage of the events.

Bizarre. Pretty. Intriguing.

Models: Mariacaria Boscono, Saskia de Brauw, Kasia Struss, Lea T, and others.
Photograper: Matthew Stone
Stylist: Katy England

I really like this shoot from Dazed and Confused featuring Givenchy. I appreciate its unapologetic boundary pushing shots. Al in all, I think it plays with some interesting ideas, some creative locations, and, of course, beautiful clothes.

Tomorrow's the opening night of Western Canada Fashion Week! Hope to see you there!

Summer in September

One of the great parts of September is that I am sifting through the influx of new music discovered at Folk Fest. By this time of the month, I have distinguished what my favourite songs are, and they get some pretty regular playtime on my iPod. For fun, I put together a playlist on 8tracks that is made of some of my favourite songs of the moment.

Mil Besos- Patty Griffin
Janglin- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Deaf- Jon Bryant
Tainted Love- Imelda May
Boy in a Rock and Roll Band- The Pierces
Sixty Years On- Brandi Carlile
Imitosis- Andrew Bird
Inside Out- Imelda May
Fantastic Feeling- Colleen Brown
Home- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
The Supine- Andrew Bird

Some of these songs aren't recent discoveries (like Colleen Brown, Jon Bryant, and The Pierces) but they have all been visited regularly, so they make the list! Pictured above is the henna tattoo I got on the second day of the festival.

Yes, I definitely wore lipstick every day of the festival. My friends
thought I was crazy, but I really don't feel myself without it.

Andrew Bird!

What's your favourite place to find new music? Any current favourite songs?

Loving

All images via Fossil

Ever since the Fossil store opened in Southgate Mall a couple years ago, I've had conflicting feelings about the fact that they only carry the bag, jewelry and watch lines.  On one hand, I'm disappointed because I love their clothing designs, it's exactly what I would love for school or for weekends; but on the other hand, my bank account is grateful to not be subject to the temptation. One of the things I find I like the most about their aesthetic is that it combines the classic elements I love, but it also has a very laid-back feel to it as well.

In other news, I have a photoshoot planned with some friends for Thursday morning! I'm really looking forward to it!

I love the clothes in this shoot. And the decor of the setting. Those rugs- yes please. The green velvet couch- that too. The library and a baby grand piano- yep. Beautiful ad campaign, I'm definitely sold!

In other news, Western Canada Fashion Week begins Thursday, and I am unbelievably excited! If you're in town, you should try to check in out, it's an excellent way to support the growing local fashion scene. http://www.westerncanadafashionweek.com

Just a couple small wishes

I realize most of the posts I've done lately have been campaigns and editorials I've found online, and I have to admit it's because it's been the easiest to balance with school. I'm hoping that once I get into the swing of things that I'll have a better variety of posts! But for today, enjoy these lovely pictures. I want all of it...And today, the weather in Edmonton was perfect, in my opinion, warm but cool enough to enjoy autumn fashion. Could it be like this everyday?

Designer Spotlight: Lena Hoschek

After assisting Vivienne Westwood in her London studio, Lena Hoschek started her line in 2006. Her aesthetic reflects the style of a classic pin-up. To be completely honest, I know very little about this line beyond the brief intro of her website, because I just stumbled across these pictures and thought they were absolutely lovely...

Back to school!

image via The Sartorialist

Today was my first day of classes, and it was AMAZING! I'm so happy to be back (and as crazy as it sounds, I'm really excited to have homework to do tonight)! I only had two classes today, an English course (Late 20th Century Canadian Texts) and a Human Ecology course (Survey of Historic Dress in the Western World), and both were fantastic. I'm really looking forward to going to my other classes tomorrow, hopefully they will all be equally exciting.
Also, it's been really hot here the past few days, hitting the 30's...Apparently summer happens in September now. But no complaints, it's great to be able to enjoy the start of classes in great weather. My university puts on tons of great outdoor events for Week of Welcome, including concerts (the main one is Dragonette this year,) clubs fair, pancake breakfasts, and the beer gardens. I will readily admit that I have only ever gone to the clubs fair, and that was when I was in my first year during orientation and this year because I was volunteering at a table. (...maybe next year I'll actually go to something....)
*update: The dictionary on her back is actually a bag. Words cannot describe how much I want this bag. I searched online and cannot find this bag. Although I realistically know deep down that it's probably out of my price range right now, I want to know who makes it. Does anyone know?

100 years

The Viral Factory for Westfield Stratford City

I have decided to wear something super comfortable tomorrow (namely leggings and a long t-shirt with flats) rather than the dress and heels I had planned on wearing. WHOA. Today I volunteered at my university's orientation, and ran around campus all day, and now my feet hurt SO BAD. Therefore, I have made the wiser decision to save wearing a dress and heels for when classes start, instead of at orientation. Because I want to be able to walk after tomorrow!

Bliss Lau Fall 2011

I really love the grace of this shoot, but I love that it is balanced by the edgy sexiness of the garments. I also love the simplicity of the makeup and hair. Just gorgeous!

Dreams

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Today has been an absolutely INCREDIBLE day! The highlight of my week (or perhaps even year) was having been given an internship at Parlour Magazine here in Edmonton. This is basically a dream opportunity, and I am so incredibly excited and grateful!

Awesome:
- The internship definitely tops the list!
- Celebratory lipstick purchase. (Actually, this is just my way of justifying it...I would have bought it anyway. But it sounds nice...) Today's lovely lipstick purchase was MAC's new Prince Noir, a lovely dark burgundy-purple that will be a scrumptious delight for autumn.
- TED talks by Eve Ensler. She is so passionate about what she believes in and does, and her work covers so much more than just The Vagina Monologues (even though the Monologues do have a huge impact on her work). Check them out: TED talks- Eve Ensler
- School starts in a few days! I'm so excited!

Awkward:
- You know how there's the system for choosing colours based on what season you are? Well, growing up I was always an autumn, but now it seems like I'm drifting more into winter. So I'm like, November?
- While wearing something age-appropriate and fun: "What do you think of this, Mom?" My mom: "Good, you don't look like the 30 year-old mother of two for a change...."
- The new Blogger interface. I can't decide if I like it or not. I love the cleanliness and modernity of it, but it's so different! Blogger users: what do you think?
